Non-Certified Professional Substitute Teachers

Persons with a four year college degree who are interested in serving as emergency substitute teachers are encouraged to apply. Applicants will be paid $85 per day to substitute in the Blairsville-Saltsburg School District. The following is required:

  • Applicant must have a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree. Education majors who have not attained Praxis tests passing scores are especially encouraged to apply to gain experience.

  • A complete application will include a letter of interest, resume, original (official) college transcript and Act 34, 151 and FBI clearances. Upon completion, please mail the entire packet to Mrs. Kathy Himes, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent at 102 School Lane, Blairsville, PA 15717 (724-459-5500).

Once the application is complete and forwarded to Kathy Himes, the applicant can expect the following to occur.

  • A phone interview will take place.
  • The district will submit the application for a Type 06 permit on behalf of the applicant.
  • Your name will be submitted to the Board of School Directors for approval at the Regular monthly meeting.
  • A call to schedule a day of training.

NOTE: The emergency certification process of the Pennsylvania Department of Education requires the district to submit a $40 fee on behalf of the applicant. To recoup this fee the district will request that each successful applicant reimburse the district on the day of training. The emergency certifications are valid for one year and only for the district that you have applied to work in.
